Salford University Hackcamp 2024

Chippy Digital is thrilled to announce our participation in this year’s Hackcamp at Salford University—marking our third time joining this exciting event!

This year, the talented student teams will take on the challenge of contributing to the development of our Developer Performance and Code Analysis Tool, a cornerstone of our efforts to evaluate and enhance the growth of our software engineers. This internal tool is designed to analyse Git commits, track performance trends, and provide actionable insights that empower our developers to continually improve.

What makes this tool truly innovative is its integration of an OpenAI model, running securely on an internal server developed by Chippy Digital. The system goes beyond merely analysing commits for issues—it offers developers meaningful feedback via email, providing actionable tips tailored to their contributions. By transforming each commit into a learning opportunity, the tool fosters a culture of continuous improvement.

The AI-powered tool evaluates a range of critical factors such as code quality, security, maintainability, and adherence to best practices. Developers are scored across multiple metrics, including testing coverage, modularity, and performance optimization. These scores are then visualized through detailed charts, heatmaps, timelines, and growth insights—giving individuals and team leads the ability to track progress, identify trends, and make informed decisions.

Hackcamp participants will have the unique opportunity to expand the tool’s capabilities by brainstorming innovative metrics, designing intuitive visualizations, and exploring new ways to understand a developer’s journey. We’re excited to see the creativity and problem-solving skills the students bring to this project!

Stay tuned for updates on the incredible ideas and progress from Hackcamp 2024. Together, let’s continue to build the future of software development!
